Moist, fizzy, and intensely chocolatey, this Double Chocolate Cola Layer Cake brings nostalgic flavors and bakery-style indulgence right to your kitchen table.

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 12 slices 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa

  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 3/4 cups sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup melted dark chocolate

  • 1 cup cola (chilled)

Instructions

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and line two 8-inch round pans.

  2. Mix flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In another bowl, whisk sugar, eggs, oil, and vanilla. Stir in buttermilk and melted chocolate.

  4. Slowly add cola. Combine with dry ingredients.

  5. Divide batter into pans. Bake 30–35 minutes.

  6. Cool, then frost with ganache or buttercream. Chill slightly before serving.

Notes

This recipe also works great as cupcakes—just reduce bake time to about 18–20 minutes. For extra flair, use cherry cola or top with shaved chocolate and berries. Chilling the cake before slicing improves structure and flavor depth.
