Ingredients
-
1 lb (450g) ground beef
-
1 onion, finely chopped
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
2 tbsp tomato paste
-
1 tsp paprika
-
1 tsp dried oregano
-
Salt and pepper to taste
-
4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
-
1/2 cup beef stock
-
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
-
2 tbsp olive oil
-
Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté onion until translucent. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
-
Add ground beef, breaking it up as it browns. Cook until no longer pink.
-
Stir in tomato paste, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
-
Pour in beef stock and let simmer for 5–7 minutes. Remove from heat.
-
Lightly grease a baking dish. Layer half the potato slices on the bottom.
-
Spoon the beef mixture over the potatoes, then layer the rest of the potatoes on top.
-
Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top. Cover with foil.
-
Bake for 35–40 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 10 more minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
-
Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
Notes
-
Thinly slice potatoes for even cooking—use a mandoline for best results.
-
Add chili flakes or sliced tomatoes for a flavor boost.
-
Great for meal prep—assemble in advance and refrigerate before baking.
